Cleanliness, ease of use, improved visibility and fire safety are all benefits sportswear distributor adidas appreciates from the use of MantaMESH® wire decking in its 10,000m2 national distribution centre (DC) at Mulgrave in Melbourne. The DC supports a network of specialist retailers, department stores and its own retail outlets.
Keeping the warehouse and stock cleaner
“adidas is synonymous with quality and we want goods to be clean when we despatch them,” said Supply Chain Manager, Roger Badar. “We had solid shelving in our old DC, and the dust that built up on the shelves was so bad, pickers had to wear gloves. Now, dust just settles on the floor, which allows us to control it and keep the DC clean.”
Makes reconfiguring for seasonal changes easy
The task of loading cartons in and out of the various storage areas is also made easier with MantaMESH. “We have a dynamic product range and are constantly bringing in new and seasonal products and rotating stock locations. Sliding cartons on and off the wire decks is faster, easier and safer than handling them on boards.”
More benefits with wire decks than just fire safety
“Initially, the choice of wire decking was because we went with an ESFR sprinkler system, but now, having had a couple of year’s experience in their use, I would say the other operational benefits alone would justify the investment in wire decking, even if the sprinkler system was not a consideration.”
